I am at the Washington Nationals game and it is a nice stadium. Look for a review later.
Avalanche win Game 5!
The Avalanche withstood a relentless firestorm from the Minnesota Wild and won 3-2 to take a 3-2 lead in the best of 7 series.
The Wild came out hitting hard and trying to do everything to shake up the Avalanche, but they couldn’t and the Avalanche scored the first goal. The Wild evened it up with a power play goal late in the 1st period.
The second period was played to a draw, but the Avalanche came out and won the third period by getting two quick goals from Wolski and Stastny. The Wild got their second goal with under two seconds left.
The Avalanche played strong and smart and won the game. They didn’t take any stupid penalties and kept at it.
They have a chance to close-out the series on Saturday night. Let’s hope they can do that!
Go AVS!
Colorado Rockies have great television commercials
The Colorado Rockies have great television commercials. The ads are produced in-house and are quite creative. Last years were pretty funny, especially the high altitude baking one.
But they have gotten a lot better this year since the Rockies won the National League last year.
The stars one makes fun of themselves, the Tulo takes advantage of the Tulo chant, Holliday touched it makes a play on words from the play-in game last year, and the best of them all is Spillbourghs’ Spilborghs’ seed lessons.
Minnesota Wild are a bunch of thugs…
The Minnesota Wild are a bunch of thugs. If you don’t believe it, you should watch a reply of tonights game.
It has been a history in hockey, especially in the playoffs, if one team takes a big lead, the losing team tries to rough up the other team.
But tonight it went too far. Yeah hit harder and do other things. It is part of the game. But the cheap shots are ridiculous.
The worst one was when Wild player Stephane Veilleux left his feet and boarded Colorado Avalanche player Paul Stastny. That is a horrible call and should have been a 5 minute penalty.
The game got worse and chippy and you know it was coming from Wild coach Jacques Lemaire. That is the only way that would happen.
The NHL shoud review the Veilleux hit and suspend him for it. That was uncalled for and hockey does not need that type of play.
The other thing that the NHL should do is suspend Lemaire for the next game. What he told his players to do is uncalled for and should be punished. Just look what Crawford did when he was with the Canucks. It ruined a players career and life.
The NHL should send a message. Whether it is in the playoffs or the regular season. The rules should not change.
I guess the Avalanche won the battle tonight by blowing out the Wild 5-1.
A good day for Colorado sports
Well it was a good day for two of the professional sports teams in Colorado, the Colorado Avalanche and the Colorado Rockies.
The Colorado Avalanche came back from a 2-0 deficit to score four straight goals to defeat the Vancouver Canucks 4-2 to clinch a spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Peter Forsberg scored his first goal of the season and they looked pretty good through the second half of the game.
The Colorado Rockies had a re-do and beat the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1. The original opener was rained out after the St. Louis Cardinals had opened up a 5-1 lead. Thank goodness for the rain.
Let’s hope the good news continues for these two teams as the spring continues on and into the fall for the Rockies.
NCAA unfair in hockey National Championships
How unfair is the NCAA Hockey Championships where the host in the midwest regional is the University of Wisconsin and they are playing the University of Denver at the Kohl Center in Madison.
Because home ice means so much, hosts, if they qualify, should never play on their own ice. The advantage is too great.
They don’t have to travel and the fans are in their favor. It creates an advantage that one team should not enjoy in the national championships.
The transformation of the University of Idaho basketball programs
The transformation of the University of Idaho men’s and women’s basketball programs is well underway.
Last Monday, Athletic Director Rob Spear introduced the new men’s basketball head coach Don Verlin. Verlin comes from Utah State where he was serving as the assistant coach. He ran the offense for the Aggies and for the last 9 seasons, the Aggies have had a winning record and post-season appearances.
Verlin has yet to coach a team that had a losing record. Continue reading “The transformation of the University of Idaho basketball programs”
IOC’s Rogge employing ‘silent diplomacy’ with China-Tibet protests
ESPN – IOC’s Rogge employing ‘silent diplomacy’ with China-Tibet protests – Olympics
The pressure is beginning to build on China, but they are not relenting and are again telling lies to the world and their citizens.
“Beijing’s official death toll from the rioting is 22, but the Dalai Lama’s government-in-exile has said 99 Tibetans have been killed.” To me, China does not want to admit that they are the reason for this problem. The are trying to blame the Dalai Lama for this problem, but it is China’s intolerance to anything that challenges their belief.
This is why they Olympics should never had been awarded to them until they clean up their human rights abuses. They do not tolerate any dissent in their country, they jail and kidnap anyone who disagrees with them, and they encourage genocide in other countries (see Sudan and Darfur).
Even the Olympic organization was putting down protests today by not allowing protesters at the lighting of the Olympic Flame today in Greece.

China should get their act together soon or the games won’t go as smoothly as they want. The world will see that it is not all roses in a country that will see more dissent and controversy as the years go by.
Idaho to hire Verlin as Men’s Basketball Coach
FoxSports is reporting that the University of Idaho will hire Utah State associate head coach Don Verlin as the new Head Coach.
Verlin has been coaching with Stew Morrill for the past 15 seasons, the last 10 at Utah State.
This seems awfully quick to me. There are a bunch of good coaches out there, many of them are still coaching in the NCAA Tournament. To make a decision this quick, Spear was set on one person and he was going to get that person.
That may or may not be a good thing.
According to FoxSports, a press conference will be held on Monday at 8:00 P.M.
UI Men’s Baskeball Coach George Pfeifer Fired
University of Idaho Men’s Basketball Coach was fired today after two years of leading the helm. It is tough to see an alum and a nice person go, but changes had to be made.
As the search goes on, it will be interesting to see who is interviewed and who is hired.
According to the Idaho Statesman, alum Dan Monson is not interested. But several names are being mentioned.
mong the names that might crop up for the job: Don Verlin (Utah State assistant), Gib Arnold (USC assistant), Ray Giacolleti (Gonzaga assistant) and Leon Rice (Gonzaga assistant).
One name that is not being mentioned in this group is Jeff Hironaka of Seattle Pacific. He is a recruiting fiend and knows the Northwest and he is a native of Weiser, Idaho. He has done a tremendous job at Seattle Pacific and I think deserves a shot at being the next coach at Idaho.
Let’s get a good coach in and bring this program back.
