Baseball is back!

I just want to make a quick post and highlight that baseball is back and I am looking forward to another season.
You know spring is around the corner when spring training games start. Catchers and pitchers reporting is great, but it is even better when the games start.

I am looking forward to another season of the Colorado Rockies. It doesn’t matter where we think they will finish or how upset we are about off-season trades or acquisitions.

Every team starts out fresh and tied on opening day. Here is to another season of baseball and Go Rockies!

Colorado Avalanche Hockey Radio Broadcast Needs Improvement

Congratulations to the Colorado Avalanche for taking down the Detroit Red Wings in a shootout tonight, but something needs to be done about the signal strength of the Avalanche radio broadcast.
I live in the north metro area and there is overlap from another channel and you can barely hear the broadcast. For a National Hockey League team that is unacceptable.

Also, a couple of weeks ago they weren’t even on the usual channel. I had to hunt around for them.

When they were on the Fan, things were so much easier. You knew what radio station they were on. If it wasn’t the main one, you went to the secondary.

I guess Stan the Man trying to make an extra buck and not renewing the contract with the Fan is the problem. Colorado Avalanche fans deserve better.

Idaho and Boise State renew rivalry

The University of Idaho and Boise State renew their rivalry this weekend.  After Idaho dominating the series for 13 straight games in the late 1980’s to early 1990’s, Boise State has taken over and dominated the series since the late 1990’s.
What will the score be?

Everyone is down on Idaho, but I they have been playing a lot better lately.  They have been controllling the clock and the defense has been getting some pressure.

But despite all this and all my wishes, I don’t think Idaho will be able to win this game. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be rooting my heart out for the Vandals.

My prediction, Idaho 31 – Boise State 38.

But I hope it is the other way.

I am disappointed in the Colorado Rockies…

I just want to say that I am disappointed in the management of the Colorado Rockies.  They failed to show committment to winning to their players and most importantly their fans.
Why? Who knows, we may never know.

The reason? Because they failed to sign Matt Holliday to a long-term deal and traded him away to the Oakland Athletics.

Matt Holliday is a big-time, major league player whose type only comes along every once in a while.  They should have made every effort to sign him.

The Rockies did get three players in return from the Athletics. One is a left-handed starting pitcher who struggled last year, but in looking at the offense of the A’s, it is no wonder he struggled.  The second is a reliever who struggled last year and may be on the downward trend.  And third is a prospect who may develop into a great player, but who has struggled at the major league.

Matt Holliday is gone and I wish him well.  But the Rockies management is to blame and should be held accountable.

The fans came out and showed support that was unrivaled except for the first couple of years.  The Rockies management had a chance to show their fans they were committed to winning, but they just blew them off.

We’ll see next summer how it pays off.  I hope it is good, but I am doubtful.

Why the Denver Broncos won’t win another game…

The reason that the Denver Broncos won’t win another game is that they can’t play defense. No ands, ifs, or buts about it.
A perfect example is late in the game today when the Broncos scored to pull within two points.  The defense then gave up a 80 yard, over eight minute drive and Miami scored a touchdown.

Not that I don’t want them to lose the rest of their games, they just won’t do it.

They keep getting dominated on every aspect of the game, especially defense.  They are just horrid and there is no reason why they should be leading the AFC west.

I doubt they will be leading it at the end of the season.

The defense has been horrid for many years, despite new coaches, schemes, and players. But it comes to down to one person.

That one person is Shanahan and it is time for him to retire and leave the game.  He has been here a long time and his lack of winning is growing quite old.

It will be a long season and many more long seasons unless he leaves.

RMN: Borderline Calls leave Broncos steamed

Denver Broncos – Borderline Calls Leave Broncos Steamed.
I think Dre Bly said it best,

“But, hey, the first couple games, I guess they’ve been evaluating us and said, you know, we won games we shouldn’t have won so I guess they’re going to get a call against us.”

On the long third down, which the Broncos had stopped the Jaguars, Bly had the perfect outside position and Jaguars receiver Reggie Williams ran him over. Williams made the contact, not Bly.

Then on a crucial play on the Jaguars last drive, Manual was called for pass interference by an official who was blocked by the play. He couldn’t see if there was contact or not.

But he made the call anyway.  There was an official in front of him who didn’t throw the flag and probably had a better angle on it.

Oh well. The Broncos benefitted from some calls earlier this year. I guess this is a way for the NFL and the officials to make up those calls to the rest of the league.

Official Blows Call in Rapids Game, Red Cards Casey

Dynamo top Rapids.
I just want to say that referee Mark Geiger blew the call on the second yellow for Conor Casey of the Colorado Rapids.

Casey had the position and Dynamo player Eddie Robinson came over the top of Casey initiating the contact.  When the referee came over with a yellow, I thought he was going to card Robinson, but no.

I hope FIFA seriously looks at this referee and how he called the game, he had something out for the Rapids.  He made several bad calls and this is one of them.

It probably didn’t make a difference in the final score, but one questionable call led to a goal for Houston.

Hochuli to fans: “I failed miserably”

Hochuli to fans: “I failed miserably” – The Denver Post
The San Diego Charger fans need to leave it alone. Ed Hochuli has admitted he made a mistake and has moved on.

The rantings of Charger fans are not going to change the call or the outcome of the game. The Denver Broncos won the game.

I think the Charger fans should be more upset at their defense who failed to stop the Broncos on two attempts to get a touchdown and who failed to stop them when they went for two.

Hochuli is showing a lot of class in responding to emails that he is receiving from Charger fans. It is time to see some class from the Charger fans.

Major League Baseball does a disservice to the Houston Astros

I just want to say that Major League Baseball has done a disservice to the Houston Astros, the hottest team in baseball.
Why do you ask?

Well they sent the Astros to play the Chicago Cubs to play a game in Milwaukee when they were supposed to play in Houston.

Now they couldn’t play in Houston because of Hurricane Ike.  But they could have played the game somewhere else.  Maybe Arlington, anywhere else besides Milwaukee.

Milwaukee is an hour from Chicago.  So who do you think the crowd was rooting for? Not the Astros.  The Cubs dominated them in the first game through a no-hitter by Carlos Zambrano.  They were then one-hit by Lilly the next evening.

Major League Baseball did a disservice to the Astros. They could have handled it a lot better.

Update:  Here is an article from the Denver Post discussing the situation with the Houston Astros, “Bad brew for Astros’ home”.
