Cal loses to Stanford, but officials help..

Well Cal didn’t play well enough to win, but the officials helped out Stanford out at the end by not over-turning two obvious bad calls by the officials.  Stanford beat Cal 20-13.
First, they didn’t over-turn an interception when it was obviously dropped and had hit the ground.  Second, the players foot was on the line on a critical third down pass.

The Pacific-10 officials (both on-the-field and replay) have been horrible this year.  The Pacific-10 needs to seriously look at their officiating and upgrade it.  For a premier college football conference to have second-tier officials is pretty bad and brings down the reputation of the league.

Just ask Oklahoma.

Travis Henry decision due soon

The Rocky Mountain News has a story on their website that the NFL is expected to make a decision on today on whether they are going to suspend Travis Henry for violating the leagues substance abuse policy.
According to the article, part of Henry’s appeal to the league is “… was that the threshold of what was detected was too low to be anything except second-hand inhalation.”

For a NFL player facing a suspension for the next violation, or a NFL player in general, to put himself in a situation where people are smoking marijuana is stupid.  Just plain stupid.

If he gets cleared, it will be a lucky break for Henry.  But, for me, the Broncos should look seriously if they want a player like Henry around.

Mike Prater of KTIK and Idaho Statesman needs to be fired

Mike Prater, the sports editor of the Idaho Statesman, needs to be fired.
On his radio program yesterday on KTIK‘s Idaho Sports Talk, Prater said that everything associated with the University of Idaho school and athletic program was horrible, including the football team, athletic director, fans, school president, everything.

He even said that “that they should take a bomb, blow it up, and start over again.”

Listen for yourself:

He finished off by saying that David Vobora was horrible.  It doesn’t matter that David Vobora was the leading tackler in the Western Athletic Conference for the last two years.

The University of Idaho is the premiere educational institution in the state and far exceeds the other institutions of higher learning in the state.

In addition, to say that someone should take a bomb and blow it up is crazy.  It is an irresponsible statement that should be punished.  Threatening or encouraging someone to blow something up is a big deal and should not be handled lightly by his editors at the Idaho Statesman and his producers at KTIK.

MIKE PRATER MUST BE FIRED!

Idaho Loses to Boise State

The University of Idaho showed courage and strength but a fumble on the opening drive of the second half deflated the Vandals and couldn’t recover losing to the Boise State Broncos 58-14.
The Broncos are good, but not that good, and benefited from some questionable calls.  But took advantage of Idaho mistakes and inactivity on field.  Teams that win, do that.  BSU will have a tough game next week against the Hawaii Rainbows.

If you check out the comments on the Idaho Statesman, you can really see how classless and pathetic the Bronco fans are.

ESPN – Pac-10 reprimands officials in UW-OSU game – College Football

ESPN – Pac-10 reprimands officials in UW-OSU game – College Football
The Pac-10 has reprimanded the replay official and officiating crew for their actions during the Oregon State – Washington game last Saturday.

I spoke about it in an earlier post, Pac-10 Officials blow it again.

I think the Pac-10 took the necessary action and hopefully that replay officials and officiating crews will learn and get better.  The Pac-10 is the premier league in college football and they need officiating crews that are top notch also.

Tulo loses NL Rookie of the Year, baseball biased against Rockies

Well the east coast bias is in full force in Major League Baseball and it is hitting the Rockies hard.
Today, Troy Tulowitzki lost out on the National League Rookie of the Year to Milwaukee Brewers slugger Ryan Braun. Braun received 128 points in the Rookie of the Year balloting while Tulo received 126.

Braun had some good offensive numbers (34 HRs, .324 average, and a slugging percentage of .634), he was horrible on defense with 26 errors at third base. Braun only played with the Brewers since May.

Tulowitzki played throughout the entire year, hit almost .300, had more rbi’s, and more at-bats. In addtion, Tulo was incredible at shortstop. In an article on the Denver Post website, “Tulowitzki led all major league shortstops in fielding percentage (.987), chances (834) and assists (561), while making just 11 errors.

Pac-10 Officials blow it again

Well, the Pac-10 officials blew a call and it almost cost the Oregon State Beavers a football game against the Washington Huskies.
Oregon State was marching it down the field and just outside the goal line, Yvenson Marven Barnard was clearly down by contact and lost the football as he was trying to reach out for the goal.

But the officials let the play go on and a Washington safety picked up the ball and returned it to the 40 yard-line. The replay official never stopped the game and since the Beavers were out of time outs, they could not challenge they call.

The Huskies eventually gave the ball on downs at the Beavers 25 yard-line.
