Cafe 222, A great place to eat

I am in San Diego for PRSA’s International Conference and for lunch today I went to Cafe 222.
This is a great restaurant for breakfast and lunch and is not too far from the convention center. I just needed to get out of the hotel.

I wrote a review in Yelp. But if you are in San Diego and downtown, check out Cafe 222 for a good meal.

The College Football Rankings and BCS are Screwed up

I just want to say what many people are saying, the BCS system is screwed up. Big time!
Nothing illustrates that more than USC and Oregon. Last week, Oregon blew out, just dominated the University of Southern California. Everyone agreed. But this week USC struggles against Arizona State and Oregon goes and loses to Stanford.

What happens today when the polls come out? USC is now ranked in 9th spot and Oregon is ranked in 13th. Shouldn’t two teams with the same number of loses come down to the head-to-head match-up? Oregon should be ahead of the Trojans.

The BCS is made to determine the top two teams to play for a National Championship. The mid-majors who are not in one of the BCS leagues don’t have a chance for playing in that game. TCU and BSU are those teams this year.

In fact, one of those teams will probably be left out of the who BCS bowls.

It is time that the NCAA take control and develop a playoff system like the other football divisions. You can still have the bowls later, but until we start playing a true playoff system, we won’t have a true national champion.

The schools deserve this, and above all, the fans of college football deserve it.

Rovell is an Idiot, Claims Marathon’s Win Is Empty Because American Wasn’t Born in America

Marathon’s Headline Win Is Empty – Sports Biz with Darren Rovell – CNBC.com.
I just want to say that Darren Rovell has no clue. I guess that is why he is writing a sports column on CNBC.

But I expect more of CNBC then what was delivered by Rovell on Monday about New York City Marathon winner Meb Keflezighi.

He is the first American to win the New York City Marathon since 1998.

But Rovell tried to diminish the win because Keflezighi was not born in America. He immigrated when he was 12 from Eritrea with his family. This is truly an American story.

What American didn’t come from some other country, whether directly or as a descendent? He is no less an American than I am, and I was born here.

Rovell’s comments border on racism and definitely will not be on my read list anymore.

Get a clue Rovell!

Extremely Disappointed in ESPN

I am extremely disappointed in ESPN.
Here in Colorado we were stuck with the Texas blowout of Oklahoma State just because we are in some Big 12 geographic region. But the big game of the week we can’t see.

ESPN is saying that it is available on ESPN2, but ESPN2 HD is not broadcasting the game. We get ESPN News for some reason. But if you go to ESPN2 standard definition channel, the game is there.

What gives ESPN?

I think you are falsely advertising games and denying us the opportunity to watch the game.

Get with the time and stop being so petty and show the games on the HD channel.

Canned beer takes off, I love Dale’s Pale Ale

I happened to find Dale’s Pale Ale from Oskar Blues Brewery over a year ago and then discovered another one of their beers, Old Chub Scottish Ale soon after.
I am loving their beer and the can’t be more right, beer tastes better from a can.

It looks like this notion is getting out. NPR just had a story about it today.

http://www.npr.org/v2/?i=112575361&m=112585050&t=audio

I am beginning to see more-and-more brewers can their beer. It is easier to get around, it tastes better by keeping light from hitting the beer and oxygen getting in, and it is more environmentally friendly.

Oskar Blues is strictly canning beer and I have seen cans of Fat Tire, from New Belgium Brewing Company, floating around also.

Look for more beer in cans at your neighborhood store.

Health advisory issued as smoke flows into Colorado – The Denver Post

Health advisory issued as smoke flows into Colorado – The Denver Post.
It is just plain nasty in Denver right now because of the smoke that is coming into the area because of the fires in Southern California.

The weather is just right and it is funneling all that smoke up here. When I was driving home from work, it was so bad it felt like it was dusk and the sun wasn’t setting for another couple of hours.

Hopefully it will clear up soon, but they are saying it won’t clear up until the weekend.

It is just plain nasty out right now.

Another wonderful find in Wash Park – Devil’s Food Bakery

I had a morning business meeting yesterday and since they were staying near near DU I thought Wash Park would be a good place to meet and what came to mind was Devil’s Food Bakery.
I had found this place after walking around the neighborhood following another fabulous meal at the Washington Park Grille.

This place lived up to their reviews and their website. The breakfast was wonderful.  I had a scramble with fresh mozzarela, tomatoes, and bacon. It also came with homemade bread from the bakery, sausage, and potatoes.

The breakfast was more than enough.

They also have many more interesting things on their menu that I want to go back and try.

One more benefit of Devil’s Food Bakery is that it is a cell free zone. No cell phone use. We were at a business meeting and neither of us were disturbed by our cell phones or people talking on their cell phones at other tables.

Even though I live in Westminster, Wash Park is one of the favorite hang outs for my wife and I.

If you are near Wash Park, pop in to the Devil’s Food Bakery for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or one of their wonderful looking pastries.

i don’t blame Apple

Many people are beginning to get upset at Apple for having a closed system with iTunes and their iPod line.
I’m not.

Now don’t get mad at me and accuse me of drinking the juice, I have some good reasons why.

First of all, they are doing what any business would like to do, dominate their market. In the music player business, there were once many different players, but they all failed to capture or keep the attention of consumers.

People think they should open iTunes to competitive devices of the iPod. Apple should make this decision on their own.

A company should develop a develop a device and product that starts gaining consumers attention and dollars. When this happens Apple while make the changes and open up.

Right now there is not anyone who is doing that. There is no product that is challenging iTunes and the iPod. We’ll have to see how the Zune does this fall, but we usually see new iPods at that time.

It is an open market, let it decide how Apple moves forward.
