Idaho Vandals and the Humanitarian Bowl

This is the best sign for the Idaho Vandal football team in the last 11 years. Yesterday they beat the Bowling Green Falcons 43-42.

They drove 68 yards in three plays to score a touchdown and instead of settling for a field goal went for the win by going for two. And they succeeded.

Since playing in the 1998 Humanitarian Bowl, the Vandals have struggled. But since Robb Akey was hired three years ago, the turn-around began.

Now it is on to the next level and going for a bigger bowl game.

Let’s Go Vandals!

The Indianapolis Colts screwed up

The Indianappolis Colts screwed up their perfect season and screwed up the playoff race for other teams.
They owed it to their players to go out and grab that perfect season that only one other team has managed to do in the enitre history of the NFL.

They also owed it to their fans to go out and win. Their fans pay a lot of money to go see their team play. They don’t pay to watch reserves go out and stink up the field and lose.

Additionally, they were playing a team who still was fighting for a playoff berth with other teams. The Colts owed it to those teams to go out there and play with their best players to try and beat the Jets.

Becuase the pulled Manning and other top starters, the Jets were able to pull out a win and bring themselves back into the playoff race.

It will be interesting to see if this hurts the Colts as they head into the playoffs. Will they lose their edge and swagger? If they do they will have tpo answer a bunch of questions.

Right now I have completely lost the respect I had for their organization.

Throw out the BCS, we need a true National Champion, My Plan

We need a true national champion, not the Bowl Championship Series, something that is controlled by six college football leagues; the SEC, Big East, ACC, Big 12, Pac 10, and Big Ten.
We don’t see a clearer cut reason this year than the three undefeated teams that won’t get a chance to play for a National Championship; Cincinnati, TCU, and Boise State.

TCU and Boise State are two non-BCS conference schools and they have been stuck playing each other in the Fiesta Bowl in Arizona. They big schools were afraid of them and didn’t want them embarrassing their conference schools.

Cincinnati is from the Big East and will be playing in the Sugar Bowl against Florida.

Those three schools should have an equal chance at playing for the National Championship as Texas and Alabama will.

There are excuses, plenty of them, but the main excuse is that there is not enough time and the student athletes would miss too much school. That is an unacceptable excuse for me. Continue reading “Throw out the BCS, we need a true National Champion, My Plan”

This story by Ray Ratto is great. It also is the perfect example why the BCS should go, be investigated for collusion, and why we need a true playoff in Division I college football.

The only reason the BCS exists is to make money for the five BCS conferences. That is not what college football is about.

Vandal Victory Highlights

This has been a great year for the Vandal Football team and it will be a great remaining part of the season. Let’s get out there against the Utah State Aggies next week and then the bowl game. Go Vandals!

The College Football Rankings and BCS are Screwed up

I just want to say what many people are saying, the BCS system is screwed up. Big time!
Nothing illustrates that more than USC and Oregon. Last week, Oregon blew out, just dominated the University of Southern California. Everyone agreed. But this week USC struggles against Arizona State and Oregon goes and loses to Stanford.

What happens today when the polls come out? USC is now ranked in 9th spot and Oregon is ranked in 13th. Shouldn’t two teams with the same number of loses come down to the head-to-head match-up? Oregon should be ahead of the Trojans.

The BCS is made to determine the top two teams to play for a National Championship. The mid-majors who are not in one of the BCS leagues don’t have a chance for playing in that game. TCU and BSU are those teams this year.

In fact, one of those teams will probably be left out of the who BCS bowls.

It is time that the NCAA take control and develop a playoff system like the other football divisions. You can still have the bowls later, but until we start playing a true playoff system, we won’t have a true national champion.

The schools deserve this, and above all, the fans of college football deserve it.

Rovell is an Idiot, Claims Marathon’s Win Is Empty Because American Wasn’t Born in America

Marathon’s Headline Win Is Empty – Sports Biz with Darren Rovell – CNBC.com.
I just want to say that Darren Rovell has no clue. I guess that is why he is writing a sports column on CNBC.

But I expect more of CNBC then what was delivered by Rovell on Monday about New York City Marathon winner Meb Keflezighi.

He is the first American to win the New York City Marathon since 1998.

But Rovell tried to diminish the win because Keflezighi was not born in America. He immigrated when he was 12 from Eritrea with his family. This is truly an American story.

What American didn’t come from some other country, whether directly or as a descendent? He is no less an American than I am, and I was born here.

Rovell’s comments border on racism and definitely will not be on my read list anymore.

Get a clue Rovell!

Extremely Disappointed in ESPN

I am extremely disappointed in ESPN.
Here in Colorado we were stuck with the Texas blowout of Oklahoma State just because we are in some Big 12 geographic region. But the big game of the week we can’t see.

ESPN is saying that it is available on ESPN2, but ESPN2 HD is not broadcasting the game. We get ESPN News for some reason. But if you go to ESPN2 standard definition channel, the game is there.

What gives ESPN?

I think you are falsely advertising games and denying us the opportunity to watch the game.

Get with the time and stop being so petty and show the games on the HD channel.
