Colorado Avalanche Hockey Radio Broadcast Needs Improvement

Congratulations to the Colorado Avalanche for taking down the Detroit Red Wings in a shootout tonight, but something needs to be done about the signal strength of the Avalanche radio broadcast.
I live in the north metro area and there is overlap from another channel and you can barely hear the broadcast. For a National Hockey League team that is unacceptable.

Also, a couple of weeks ago they weren’t even on the usual channel. I had to hunt around for them.

When they were on the Fan, things were so much easier. You knew what radio station they were on. If it wasn’t the main one, you went to the secondary.

I guess Stan the Man trying to make an extra buck and not renewing the contract with the Fan is the problem. Colorado Avalanche fans deserve better.

Walmart moves into social media with commercial

Walmart ran the following commercial in movie theaters and it is quite catchy. It even discusses Facebook and Twitter.
Well it looks like it has caught on Walmart has put it on YouTube. It was put on YouTube long after I saw it in the movie theater. They also put a link to the movie on its own website where you can download the mp3, sheet music, or read the lyrics.

I would say it is quite ingenius on Walmart’s part to do this, although it was slower than it should have been.

Terminix – Improve your account management

Terminix, you need to improve your account managment site on the web.  Something has changed over the last few months.
Before, I could manage my account and pay my bill online using my MacBook Pro.  But no more.

I have been trying to pay my account online for the past month and your account pages kept timing out on me in both Firefox and Safari.  No real reason, just did.

I thought that you were doing maintenance in the evening when I was trying to pay my bills.  But tonight it finally got to me and I tried to pay my bill on our Windows XP machine using Internet Explorer.

Low-and-behold it worked just fine, like clockwork.

I don’t know what you have done in the last few months, but you have taken your account management online presence to the dark ages by making it only work with Internet Explorer on a Windows machine.

You are eliminating a lot of people by doing this. In today’s web presence, it shouldn’t matter if you are on a Windows, Mac, or Linux.  It shouldn’t matter if you are using Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.

Terminix, get with the times and and make your account management presence on the web platform agnostic.

Malawi makes strides and now is exporting food

After suffering through a deadly drought, the government of Malawi took the bold step, and ignored the United States and European Union, and developed a seed giveaway program.
Well guess what happened, they have had two bumper crops and are now exporting food to their neighboring countries.  Quite a success story.

I found this story on NBC Nightly News and it caught my attention.

Idaho and Boise State renew rivalry

The University of Idaho and Boise State renew their rivalry this weekend.  After Idaho dominating the series for 13 straight games in the late 1980’s to early 1990’s, Boise State has taken over and dominated the series since the late 1990’s.
What will the score be?

Everyone is down on Idaho, but I they have been playing a lot better lately.  They have been controllling the clock and the defense has been getting some pressure.

But despite all this and all my wishes, I don’t think Idaho will be able to win this game. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be rooting my heart out for the Vandals.

My prediction, Idaho 31 – Boise State 38.

But I hope it is the other way.

I am disappointed in the Colorado Rockies…

I just want to say that I am disappointed in the management of the Colorado Rockies.  They failed to show committment to winning to their players and most importantly their fans.
Why? Who knows, we may never know.

The reason? Because they failed to sign Matt Holliday to a long-term deal and traded him away to the Oakland Athletics.

Matt Holliday is a big-time, major league player whose type only comes along every once in a while.  They should have made every effort to sign him.

The Rockies did get three players in return from the Athletics. One is a left-handed starting pitcher who struggled last year, but in looking at the offense of the A’s, it is no wonder he struggled.  The second is a reliever who struggled last year and may be on the downward trend.  And third is a prospect who may develop into a great player, but who has struggled at the major league.

Matt Holliday is gone and I wish him well.  But the Rockies management is to blame and should be held accountable.

The fans came out and showed support that was unrivaled except for the first couple of years.  The Rockies management had a chance to show their fans they were committed to winning, but they just blew them off.

We’ll see next summer how it pays off.  I hope it is good, but I am doubtful.

Why the Denver Broncos won’t win another game…

The reason that the Denver Broncos won’t win another game is that they can’t play defense. No ands, ifs, or buts about it.
A perfect example is late in the game today when the Broncos scored to pull within two points.  The defense then gave up a 80 yard, over eight minute drive and Miami scored a touchdown.

Not that I don’t want them to lose the rest of their games, they just won’t do it.

They keep getting dominated on every aspect of the game, especially defense.  They are just horrid and there is no reason why they should be leading the AFC west.

I doubt they will be leading it at the end of the season.

The defense has been horrid for many years, despite new coaches, schemes, and players. But it comes to down to one person.

That one person is Shanahan and it is time for him to retire and leave the game.  He has been here a long time and his lack of winning is growing quite old.

It will be a long season and many more long seasons unless he leaves.

Mackeys Public House in DC a great place to hang out

I was just searching for a nice place to relax after a crazy day at work and found one near my hotel, Mackey’s Public House.
This was a great place to read the newspaper, listen to some great music, have a wonderful dinner, and drink some good beer.

Found a place to collapse, and I ordered a Smithwicks.  Then got a menu and it looked wonderful. There were a lot of good things.

I first noticed the potato cheddar soup and I had to have that to start my meal. I then found the entree’s and had to have the Shepard’s Pie.  I was going to get the bowl of soup, but the waitress recommended I just get the cup. I was glad I did.

The soup was delicious.  It had a good flavor and hit the spot.  But a cup was enough and a bowl would have been too much.

The main dish arrived and I ordered another beer, this time a Guinness.

The shepard’s pie was wonderful. It was warm and tasteful. It was full of meat and vegetables.  And it was quite tasteful with the Guinness.

After all this, I needed something sweet and I migrated to the bread pudding.  This was good and hit the spot. It had a good consistency.

This was the perfect spot to relax after a long day and recharge your batteries.  If you are looking for a place to hang out with friends or just relax, check out Mackey’s Pub on L Street in the Northwest area of Washington, DC.
