U.S. Urges China to Help Curb Violence in Burma, Prepare for Transition – washingtonpost.com
This is an extremely said situation. The government is cracking down on monks? They are using guns and killing an unknown number of people. But even though people are dying, the peaceful protests seem to be working. In this article in the Washington Post, they discuss that division level commanders are refusing to participate in the crackdown.

Slapstick Politics: Sen. Salazar Feels Nutroots’ Heat For Not Being A “MoveOn” Democrat

Slapstick Politics: Sen. Salazar Feels Nutroots’ Heat For Not Being A “MoveOn” Democrat
Slapstick Politics has a wonderful post about how Ken Salazar is getting attacked by the far left organization MoveOn.org.

Salazar does not need the support of MoveOn.  If he is to get re-elected in Colorado he is going to have to be a moderate.  It would be extremely tough if he goes as far to the left that MoveOn wants him to.

I am happy that Salazar is a moderate, but MoveOn is not winning any friends lately.  America is finally seeing the anger that they bring to politics.

What we need is a healthy discussion and debate, not threats.  Right now, the only thing that MoveOn is bringing these days are threats.

Could Alaska’s “Hottie” Governor Be the GOP’s VP Nominee in 2008?

Could Alaska’s “Hottie” Governor Be the GOP’s VP Nominee in 2008?
This is an interesting article about the Governor of Alaska.  She is really working to shape things up and is holding everyone accountable.

Even though she is mentioned as a possible candidate for Vice-President in the 2008 run, it would be tough because she has only been the Governor for a short time and lacks name recognition.

But, she has one thing that Hilary does not have and that is she has leadership experience.  She is leading the largest state in the Union and she defeated a long-term politician in the race for Governor.

It could be an interesting addition to the ticket for the GOP in 2008.

Judge Blocks Gift Ban Provision of Amendment 41

A Denver District Judge has banned the gift-ban provision of Amendment 41. This was a constitution vote by voters last fall that banned gifts over $50 and banned all gifts by lobbyists.
Gifts are now allowed to be given to elected officials and their families until there is a trial and verdict.

This had drawn some controversy because it was interpreted to include the ban of giving scholarships to sons and daughters of elected officials. I think that is ridiculous.

Rosie is an idiot

Yesterday on The View Rosie O’Donnell took a conversation that was very interesting and engaging, something that does not happen much on The View, and made it mean and attacked Elizabeth Hasselback. She was attacking Elizabeth for not defending her. There are people every day defending her right to say her idiotic things and she never backs them and she attacks them whenever she gets the chance, and that is our military.
Rosie-what is happening in Iraq to the people of Iraq and our troops is stupid, clan warfare that has been going on for centuries with a little opportunistic terrorism thrown in because our troops are being proactive and fighting terrorism. The only reason why this wasn’t happening before in this country was that people were in fear of Saddam Hussein.

The Iraqi people who are causing this clan warfare need to get with the 21st Century and learn that you can’t get anywhere by blowing people up or killing them just because they are a different religion or clan than yourself. Many Iraqis were happy when we came over there and removed Saddam from power.

He was a madman who was killing whole cultures and driving his country into the ground. But than instead of trying to move forward, they started trying to get even for years of tyranny and that was not right.

The Iraqi government needs to be the solution here and if they can’t do it, a new government needs to be brought in. It is a tough job, but they have to do it. Otherwise the whole middle east is going to implode and there will be a new war.

You can watch the exchange with Rosie and Elizabeth here.

Amendment 41 Fix Coming…Maybe

The Colorado legislature has been posturing over the fixes to Amendment 41, the new Colorado ethics law that was passed last November. But it may be close to developing a fix for all the problems that this amendment has caused.
The problem has been in the Senate. They have had the House bills for a while, but have been sitting on the legislation for over a month. The bill authorizing the five-member panel has been passed by both houses and the House has passed SB-210 that clarifies what is covered in the ban, but it also causes some controversy.

Mainly it sets up conditions in which a charge may be dismissed. In her blog, Representative Morgan Carroll states that SB-210 “MANDATES the dismissal of anyone complaint under Amendment 41 that does not allege (1) breach of the public trust (2) for private gain for money (3) offered for the purpose to influence (4) an official act.”

According to Carroll the bill, “…creates many new standards that would make it virtually impossible to ever bring any complaint forward under Amendment, let alone prevail on its merits.”

The bill passed by a large margin, but goes back to the Senate because Rep Romanoff pushed through an amendment that would delete any portion of the legislatures plan if the Colorado Supreme Court deems it illegal.

It seems that the legislature is working to find legal work-arounds to this amendment so they can keep accepting the gifts.

For those you don’t know, the Amendment 41 prohibits gifts for state and local employees plus their families over $50. The problem is that this has been interpreted as also prohibiting scholarships, inheritances, and personal gifts.

I personally voted against this Amendment. Not that I don’t think we need ethics in government, but because this was a constitutional amendment. This type of governance belongs as a statute. Because it was passed as an amendment, it has created a lot of problems and I see many problems and possibly court challenges in the future.

So the legislature is trying to clear it up and the Senate is dragging their feet. If these two bills don’t get it done in time, some concerned citizens have gathered enough signatures to place this on the fall ballot.

Let’s just give up war on terror

Well, if you believe Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) that the war is lost and we should just give up.
Last I knew America does not do that.  We owe the people of Iraq to create a stable and healthy environment, regardless of how you think we got into this.

Reid is using one horrible day of violence in Baghdad to say the ramp up of troops has failed.  Well there have been some successes up until yesterday and the build-up is not complete.

To say that, the day after the terrorists created mayhem, gives the terrorists the feeling that they need to keep what they are doing and we will just leave.  It is almost like Reid is giving aid to the enemy.

This only disheartens our troops and emboldens the terrorists.

Get a clue Reid!

The Imus Lynch Party Succeeds

This past week, the sharks have been circling Don Imus for the comments that he had of the Rutgers womens basketball team.
Let me say this again, what Imus said was completely wrong. You can see my earlier post, ” .”

There were two great posts this week in the blogosphere.

One of them was by Charles Karel Bouley on the Huffington Post. In his post, “Politically Correct Lynch Mobs“, he describes how

“…the Black Offensive Police, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson sprang in to action (is there like a Bat Phone for this sort of thing?) and began demanding for Imus to be fired. Yes, these two masters of media manipulation were calling for a fellow broadcaster to be fired for what he said on air. And of course, no one is talking about the real issues because they’re too busy screaming racist! Racist! Fire him! Remove his livelihood, drag him through the mud!”

Sharpton and Jackson are too worried what would happen if they don’t speak up, they will speak up without completely knowing the facts. Do I bring up the Duke lacrosse case here? But, they saw the blood in the water with Imus and went for the juggler and succeeded. But they were going after the person and not trying to tackle the bigger issue.

What Imus said was completely wrong, but it is not something said by people all the time. Specifically rappers and hip-hop artists. But because he was white, he paid the price. Bouley even calls it reverse racism.

How insulting all this is. If he had made homophobic remarks, this wouldn’t be news. If he were Black, say Chris Rock, Mo’Nique, Marsha Warfield, this wouldn’t be happening. In fact, he’s a victim of reverse racism. The very definition of racism is when one race believes it can do something that no other race can, when they feel they have the right to do something no one else can do. Well, saying that a Black person could make these remarks but not a White person is an inequality and is wrong no matter how you slice it. But no one ever looks at it that way. If something is so horrible that it hurts people, then no one should be able to say it, period. Selective censorship is stupid, and racial censorship is even worse.

Sharpton, Jackson, and many others have been after Imus for his comments, but they are not holding others accountable for these same comments. They are hanging out with them, they are friends with them, and they don’t criticize them for the degrading comments that they make towards women, especially black women.

I would bet CBS radio has many radio stations that play rap or hip-hop and those same words and some worse words are played several times a day each. Are they firing those DJ’s? Are they going to stop playing those artists? I don’t think so.

I want to finish up talking about Pat Buchanan’s post yesterday entitled, “The Imus Lynch Party.”

No one should judge Imus for what he said. It is wrong what he said, but he is being held to a different level because he was white and made comments about black women. Here is what Buchannan said,

The issue here is not the word Imus used. The issue is who Imus is — a white man, who used a term about black women only black folks are permitted to use with impunity and immunity.

Whatever Imus’ sins, no one deserves to have Al Sharpton — hero of the Tawana Brawley hoax, resolute defender of the fake rape charge against half a dozen innocent guys, which ruined lives — sit in moral judgment upon them.

Buchanan finished his article with a great quote.

Imus threw himself on the mercy of the court of elite opinion — and that court, pandering to the mob, lynched him. Yet, for all his sins, he was a better man than the lot of them rejoicing at the foot of the cottonwood tree.

I whole heartily agree.  Imus was truly sorry and remorseful for what he said.  He does a lot of good things in this world.  He was fired in the middle of a telethon for children with cancer and he takes sick and inner-city kids to his ranch in New Mexico.  He has done great in the world.

Imus will be back on air soon and he will have as many listeners, if not more, when he comes back.  He is a good person who made a bad mistake.  We should forgive, not forget and have a larger discussion on the whole issue.

CBS Radio also needs to look at itself and also get rid of all the music that is degrading women.  If not, they are two-face and hypocritical.  They have set the bar for behaving like a radio network.  Now they need to be equal in it across the board.
