Air Conditioning – Money Sinks

I just want to say what a rip-off air conditioners can be.
We installed an air conditioner last year for about $3,000 to $4,000 and it worked ok for the first summer. But when we fired it up this summer, it was not working.

Well I couldn’t get the company that installed our air conditioner, Heat Exchange, to come out for two weeks. We found Applewood Plumbing, Heading & Electric to come out within a couple days. Continue reading “Air Conditioning – Money Sinks”

Temperature Record Broken in Denver

Well Denver hit a record high of 100 degrees today.  This is the fourth day this month that the a record high has been broken.
It is even hotter when your air condition is not working properly.

We switched it over to air conditioning earlier in June, but it has stopped sending cool air through the system.  The air coming out of the registers was measured at 70 degrees.  That is not cutting it.

We have been able to manage with cooling off the home through the evening, but it has just been to hot.

Hopefully it can be fixed on Tuesday when the repair man is coming.  Just in time for it to cool down.

Research Finds Firstborns Gain the Higher I.Q. – New York Times

Research Finds Firstborns Gain the Higher I.Q. – New York Times
I always new that I was the smartest in my family.

In a recent report that was published in the journal of Science, “Norwegian researchers now report that it isn’t a matter of being born first, but growing up the senior child, that seems to result in the higher IQ scores.”

It is an interesting thought that has gone on for a while since Sir Francis Galton observed that men in prominent positions were first-born.

Don’t worry, I have been rubbing it in to my younger siblings.

P.F. Chang’s @ Flatiron Mall provides a good dining experience

My parents are in town this weekend and we were headed to Flatiron Crossing to cool down on an extremely warm June afternoon in the Mile High City and we decided to have dinner at P.F. Chang’s China Bistro.
I just want to begin the service was great.  The drinks were out quickly the appetizers came as soon as we finished ordering the rest of the meal and the dinner was served as soon as the appetizer plates were removed.  The waiter provided good service and checked on us at appropriate times. Mothers planning ‘nurse-in’ at Elitch’s

Mothers planning ‘nurse-in’ at Elitch’s
I just want to say good for them.

My wife breast-fed both of our kids and they should be able to breast feed them anywhere and at anytime, especially in places where the public is allowed.

Breast feeding is a natural process of raising kids and a provides some great nurturing for the kids.  It worked great for us. Continue reading “Mothers planning ‘nurse-in’ at Elitch’s”

Dusting – It is a bad trip

Well this has becoming the new huffing and it is much more dangerous.
KUSA in Denver had a story this evening on an aspiring teenager who decided to huff when he was taking a bath. He passed out and became paralyzed and he died.

One manufacturer, Memorex, will make it harder to dust by using a bitterent to make it unpleasant. You can read more on this story on Gizmodo.

This is a step, but education that this is going on a big step. I wasn’t even aware that this was happening. It is dangerous and quite stupid.

Kids, don’t do this. It could kill you or ruin your life.

Take a look at the story on the Today Show.

A Great Testimonial – Death by Veganism

In an op-ed in the New York Times, “Death by Veganism” Nina Planck wrote a great story about the nutrition that a baby needs.
For those of you who haven’t heard, a couple was convicted of murder, involuntary manslaughter, and curelty for only feeding their baby soy milk and apple juice. Their baby died.

In her article, Planck writes about the nutrition that a baby needs and it is lot more than a vegan diet offers.

The best thing for a baby is breast milk and my wife breast feed our two children. But if the mother is not getting the necessary nutrients, the baby will not get the necessary nutrients.

A vegan diet may be good for some people, but you need to be careful and make sure that you get the right nutrients. But if you are a mother who is breastfeeding or vegan parents, it is necessary to make sure that you and your baby are getting the correct nutrients to grow a healthy baby.
