How bout them Rockies!

The Colorado Rockies had no one on and 2 outs and came back to tie it up and eventually win the game tonight 7-3 over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
It was an amazing game and Cory Sullivan was key to start the scoring off in the 8th inning and then score the go ahead run in the 10th.  You also need to give the bullpen credit for shutting them down after Ubaldo Jimenez just dominated the Diamondbacks, giving up 3 hits and one bad home run.

I thought the game was over when the first-base umpire blew the call in the top of the 9th.  Tony Clark‘s foot was definitely off the bag.  The umpire was in a bad position to make the call.  They should never be in a bad position.

The umpire then goes on to throw out Clint Hurdle and for some reason the home plate umpire threw out Troy Tulowitzki who was called out by the bad call.  The problem was that Tulo was in the dugout.

The umpires are human, but in games that mean this much and maybe the playoffs, they need to bring their “A” game.  They didn’t tonight.

Pilot a rarity at United

The Wall Street Journal‘s column, The Middle Seat had a great article today on a pilot at United who goes the extra mile in providing service on United Airlines.  The column, To a United Pilot, The Friendly Skies Are a Point of Pride, describes how Captain Denny Flanagan takes the extra step to make kids and travelers feel welcome and appreciated on his flights.
The problem is that this person is few-and-far-between at United.  I have flown United a lot the last several years and have noticed a tremendous decline in the service that they provide.  So much so, that I have started flying Frontier Airlines for my personal travel because they take the extra step to make me feel welcome. Apple holding ‘special event’ on Sept. 5 | One More Thing – CNET News.com

It appears that the new iPods are coming. Yeah!

This is something that has been widely anticipated by consumers and industry a like. There are a lot of challenges to the iPod and iTunes these days and this will create and keep the buzz going towards Apple.

There hasn’t been a big design change in several years. So with this announcement coming, I think that we will see new iPods, both Nano and hard drive versions.

I can’t wait until the announcement. There is going to be a lot of buzz between now and then.

Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News Ads Annoying

I just want to say that they pop-over ads on the DenverPost.com and RockyMountainNews.com websites are quite annoying.
They are ads for Furniture Row and pop over the whole page.  The problem with the ads are that they have a close button, but it doesn’t work.  It is like they are teasing us.  I have also seen ads like this for Frontier Airlines.

I understand the need for newspapers to run ads on their sites, including pop-over ads.  But if they have a close button it should work.  I shouldn’t have to wait until it times out for the ad to close.

Don’t annoy us and we will come to your site.  If you annoy us, we will leave and your numbers will go down and so will your ads.

Cyber Minimalist: How to Work (Almost) Completely Online | zen habits
This is a pretty interesting thing to contemplate doing.  Just move all your work online.  The problem is that there are times when you can’t be connected and that may be tough.  They still do some stuff on their laptop, but they just push everything back online.

But the post mentions that he carries a moleskin notebook for those situations.  That may help, but in my habits I have a hard time capturing that back online.

Something to think about and try.

I thought the Rockies were done tonight, but…

Well I thought the Colorado Rockies were done tonight, but they weren’t.
The Roxs came back with 5 runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Washington Nationals 6-5.

The Rockies needed it tonight and stay in the race.  I think that if they would have lost tonight, it would have been a tough road to make the playoffs.

Hopefully this will break the bad losing streak and send them on a long winning streak.

More noise about Mac OS in redesigned iPods | One More Thing – CNET News.com
This is interesting and is long overdue.  I think this will be extremely popular and will definitely be out in time to hit the holiday rush.

The worst thing is that my brother just bought a new one and then, possibly, a month later they come out with a new version.

Oh well, that always happens.  When do you go out and buy some technology.  They come out with something better pretty soon after that.
