Snow, Snow, and More Snow

Well winter is finally upon us this year in the Mile High City. We had several inches of snow last Saturday and more snow last night and today.  The commute this morning and evening was crazy.  It took about three times as long to get anywhere.  Tomorrow morning may not be better.
And there is more snow coming.  There is another storm coming on Friday and we are expected to get another one to three inches then.

Tonight was quite fun when I got home with the kids.  My son came out with me and we shoveled the steps and the sidewalk together.  He was having a lot of fun shoveling the snow with daddy.  He did a good job, but a couple times he would turn to shovel the snow and would flip around and land back on the sidewalk.

But that didn’t matter.   It was good to do something fun with him

First Big Snow Hits Denver

Well the first big snowfall of the season is hitting Denver.  It is nice to see. (Let’s see if I am saying that in a month or two.)
We need the moisture and the mountains are getting hammered.  If you want to ski the Colorado Rockies, now is the time.  They are measuring the snow in feet, so now is a good time to go.

Let’s hope this is a good sign to come for the winter.  We need the water out west and the winter snowfall is how we get most of it.

YEAH!

Keep the snow machine humming and dumping snow in Colorado.

CompUSA Closing

According to a story on CNET, CompUSA is closing.
The were sold to a private equity firm and they will initiate closing all 103 stores.  The stores will remain open through the holiday season, probably with everything must go.

It is amazing to me that they are closing.  I think they tried to be everything in the electronics game and got hit hard by the competition from Circuit City and Best Buy.  They should have stuck with the computer end of it and they might have done better.

Frys Electronics has always done well in California.  It will be sad to see CompUSA go, but I am sure there will be some good prices and opportunities on the Internet.

I wonder who is next?  Circuit City has been having some problems, maybe they are next.

Pearl Harbor Day

I just want to take a second and remember all those who lost their life on December 7, 1941 in the unprovoked attack on Pearl Harbor.
They gave their lives defending our country and need to be remembered.  As President Roosevelt said, “The day that will live in infamy. “

Crawford ordered attack on Moore according to reports

SADOWSKI: Crawford ordered attack on Moore according to reports : The Rocky Mountain News
According to a report by CBC, Marc Crawford ordered the attack on Steve Moore that ended his hockey career.  Bertuzzi cowardly attacked Moore from behind in a game where his Vancouver Canucks were losing badly to Moore’s Avalanche.

According to the reports, in between the second and third period, Crawford pointed to the white board and said “he must pay the price,” referring to Moore.  Crawford was upset by a legal hit Moore had on Markus Naslund.

According to the column in the Rocky Mountain News, “These words directing vigilante retaliation to be executed against Steve Moore went well beyond the earlier ‘calling-out’ in the media by (then-Canucks GM Brian) Burke and Crawford. Bertuzzi knew exactly what was expected of him by his superiors and the consequences to him if he did not deliver.”

Bertuzzi was suspended 13 games and the Stanley Cup Playoffs and was not allowed to play internationally during the NHL players strike.  He was reinstated the following the conclusion of the strike.  Moore has yet to play hockey again after suffering a severe concussion and broken neck.

In my opinion, Bertuzzi should never have been allowed to return to hockey.  NO suspension would have been severe enough.  He should have been banned.  You never do that to an opposing player, NEVER!  If Moore could not have played again, he shouldn’t.

With these reports now, Crawford should be banned from the sport also.  That is inexcusable for a coach to do that.  You never go out and try to intentionally hurt a player.  He should never be allowed to coach again.

When the Anaheim Ducks come into Pepsi Center the next time.  Crawford and Bertuzzi are not going to have a pleasant reception.  It is kinda ironic that they are back together again.  Two goons taking care of each other.

The NHL has done a dis-service to the wonderful game of hockey.  The only way to rectify it is to ban both Crawford and Bertuzzi for life!

Christmas tree in Union Station, originally uploaded by Mile High Soapbox on Flickr.

I was in Union Station for dinner and the Christmas Tree was up and it was all decked out for Christmas.  It is pretty cool to see our Nation’s capital all ready for Christmas.
