Geno’s in Philadelphia, originally uploaded by Mile High Soapbox on Flickr.

This was a nice walk this afternoon.  I just headed down 9th Street from Market from my hotel and headed straight for Geno’s Steaks.

The neighborhood that I walked through was unique and good to see.  The curb market was also unique.  Coming from the west, it is something that we don’t have.

Of couse there was a line at Geno’s (and one at Pat’s).  But I was told to go to Geno’s, so I did.

I ordered, “Provolone with.” I got my Cheesesteak and headed for the next window to get my cheese fries and a diet coke.  I then added relish and Golden’s Mustard.

This was my first Cheesesteak and it was how I imagined it.  It was hot and it was delicious.

If you are in Philadelphia, you need to head down and go to Geno’s.  It does not get better than this.

At my high school reunion…

Well, I took the big plunge this weekend and headed to my high school reunion to see everyone. I can’t believe that it has been 20 years since we all graduated from high school, East Union High School in Manteca, Calif., class of 1987.
It began as a fun evening at a local brew pub in Manteca at Kelley Brothers Brewing Company. The company was great and the band that was playing was incredible, it helped also that one of our fellow graduates was playing also, but the beer was horrible. Red Rock Brewing Company a busy place

I am in Salt Lake City for some work meetings and needed a good place to hang out, have a good dinner, and enjoy a beer. Always got to find a good beer.
Well the Red Rock Brewing Company hit the spot. This place was busy and after we were sat, there was some wait for tables. But the food and beer were worth it.

The atmosphere was excellent with baseball on the TVs and some music playing in the background. And the menu was quite extensive and they had a lot of beer on the menu.

P.F. Chang’s @ Flatiron Mall provides a good dining experience

My parents are in town this weekend and we were headed to Flatiron Crossing to cool down on an extremely warm June afternoon in the Mile High City and we decided to have dinner at P.F. Chang’s China Bistro.
I just want to begin the service was great.  The drinks were out quickly the appetizers came as soon as we finished ordering the rest of the meal and the dinner was served as soon as the appetizer plates were removed.  The waiter provided good service and checked on us at appropriate times. 471 Double IPA From Breckenridge Brewery is a Great Beer

I like good beer, especially IPA’s, and when I stopped for lunch on Friday at the Breckenridge Brewery & Pub in Breckenridge, Colorado, I had to try the 471 Double IPA. The 471 Double IPA is part of the Breckenridge Brewery’s Small Batch Series.
You know you are in trouble when they tell you that they only serve the draft in 10-ounce servings because it is 9.2% alcohol by volume. This is quite a bit for a beer when most hover around the 6 to 7 percent range.

Rio City Cafe – A decent place on the river

I am in Sacramento for work and decided to head down to old town to the Rio City Cafe.
It was a wonderful evening on the river as the sun set in the west and the ambiance was great, only when they turned the high speed fan off.

They had a wonderful wine menu, but I skipped that for the a nice cold Newcastle Brown.

For the main course, I had the Chimichurri Marinated New York Steak. It was served with mash potatoes and grilled asparagus. It was all delicious. It was served with sourdough biscuits that were classic sourdough.

I would recommend this restaurant if you are in the Sacramento area, especially if you can sit outside on the deck.

Enjoy.

240 Union a decent place for lunch

Well I kept up my part of the promise and headed out today to support Project Angel Heart and you can’t get much better than 240 Union.
240 Union has always been one of the best restaurants in Denver and it is located in Lakewood, a western suburb of Denver. The atmoshphere is always wonderful and so is the food.

Today I had the open faced reuben sandwich. If you have been reading this blog, you know I can’t resist a good reuben.

Well this reuben was different and that is probably the only thing I found with it. Part of the reuben sandwich that I like is sauerkraut. Well the reuben at 240 Union just had cole slaw and I would say that this is a drawback.

Overall it was decent, but it was not one of my favorites. The chips that were served with it were incredible and had an interesting cut to them.

The bread that was brought to the table was delicious. Especially the foccacia bread. It rivals some of the best that I have ever had.

It was a great lunch and 240 Union held their own again.

What is happening with customer service

I am wondering what is happening to customer service in this country. Where has it gone?
We decided to take the kids to McDonald’s (Zuni and 128th) because of various errands this evening, don’t worry it is not a regular thing. Well the play area was a disaster and there was spilled soft drinks on the floor. The tables were dirty and it was not a great place to eat. The same in the main dining room. I even had to clean the table that we ate at. It was disgusting.

Then I stopped at the grocery store to pick up some groceries and get some lunch meat. Well the Safeway near our house decided to close their deli at 7 pm because someone was sick. It is crazy. They couldn’t find someone to run the deli? It is crazy and a great inconvenience to work all day and go grocery shopping and not be able to get what you want because they didn’t schedule enough people.

Customer service has disappeared in this country. It is amazing to me how companies can do this to their customers. It never used to be like this. I wish that they would get with it.

Cinegrill

Well I was in Salt Lake City this week for a day for work and went out to this place for lunch called Cinegrill.
There were a lot of items on the menu, but I settled for the lasagna and it came with house salad.

House salad?  This thing was a mountain.  It came out with a mountain of salad with the house Italian dressing and a piece of garlic bread.  It was huge and good.

The lasagna was served in a bowl with a lot of sauce and meat.  It was not like a regular lasagna, but had noodles, meat, sauce, and cheese.  It was delicious.  The sauce was definitely worth it.  It is some of the best sauce that I have had.

The restaurant has other items including burgers and corned beef.   If you are downtown, take a minute and head to Cinegrill for lunch or dinner.
