Happy Father’s Day

I just want to wish all the fathers out there a Happy Father’s Day!
My kids wished my a Happy Father’s Day this morning by bringing me cold cereal and a diet coke.  It is the thought that counts.

They then had a session of “Hop on Pop”.  That is always fun, but I just have to watch out from getting hurt.  They kids are getting bigger now, they are 3-5.

I hope everyone has a good Father’s Day!

I’ll miss Tim Russert

I just want to say that I’ll miss Tim Russert.
I enjoyed watching “Meet the Press” and listening to his thoughts and insight into political activities on NBC News and MSNBC.  It was quite entertaining and he made it fun because he enjoyed it.

For those of you who don’t know, he passed away today at the age of 58.

I remember back to the Bush-Gore election and Russert was on the news speculating on the electoral college and who was going to win.  It was back-and-forth and he kept erasing his white board.  I was up late that night and Tim was still there with his white board.

I had the opportunity to see Tim speak in person at the PRSA International Conference last fall in Philadelphia.  It was quite a speech and most of it spoke of the upcoming Presidential election.  But he was most proud when he was talking about his book and his dad.

Tim Russert will be missed, especially as we go through this upcoming election.  He made politics fun while educating us and providing a look into the campaigns.

Fly away little birdy

While I was traveling for work, the little birdy who was growing in a nest on our front door decided to leave the nest and fly away.
It was nice to see it leave.  Now the fun stuff begins.  I get to clean the door and throw away the wreath and nest.

We will be more deligent next year and make sure the wreath is gone before spring so another birdie does not build a nest there.

Firefox 3.0 RC2 Available

For those of you who use Firefox and have made the move to 3.0, Mozilla has made Firefox 3.0 RC2 available for download.
I have been using Firefox 3.0 RC1 and for the most part it has been working for me. I have only had to restart a few times.

The only issue is that some of the sites that I use do not support Firefox 3.0. I don’t know why not because it is standards compliant.

I hope this release is better and more stable.

Severe Storms Rush Through Washington, DC

Severe Storms Rush Through Region, Killing One Person – washingtonpost.com
I am in Washington, D.C., for work and the storms have been crazy.  When this story came through it got really dark and it started pouring rain.  The lightning was right over downtown and the thunder was almost right after it.

Tonight, another line of storms came through and hit just as I was headed to my hotel at 9 PM.  I am glad that I had brought my umbrella.  It was coming down pretty good and there was lightning all over the place.  I was pretty nervous.

I am glad that I didn’t know about the tornado watch.  I would have been more concerned than I was.

A little birdy growing up…

About 3 weeks ago I noticed a bird had built a nest, a finch to be specific, in our wreath on our front door.  I took a look and noticed there was an egg in it.
We’ll I just let it go.  I never saw the mother, so I thought the egg was dead.  Well a week-in-a-half later I took another look and there was a chick.  Then I tried to watch it, I neve saw it move.

I even checked it last week and I couldn’t see if it had moved or not.  But I still saw the mother flying in and out.

Well yesterday I saw the chick and it was moving.  It’s eyes were moving and I could see it breathing.

So after thinking it was dead twice, we are trying to minimize our use of the front door so it can continue to grow and not have a lot of interruptions.

It is getting feathers now and it shouldn’t be much longer.  We’ll do our best to help it get a good start into the world.

I just have to keep the kids away.  I will show them what it looks like though.

Let the vacation begin…

I am on a little mini-vacation and it is needed.  I am staying around town and have family visiting, but it is time to relax and recharge.
I hope to get more posts done and move forward with some other projects.

I am really looking forward to some fun.

Remember the real reason for Memorial Day

Memorial Day has evolved into the “kick-off” of summer.  But that is not the real reason for the holiday today.
Memorial Day is remembering all those who went before us who defended our country and gave us the rights we have today.  Nothing we do today should remove that from our memories.

Because if we didn’t have these people who stood up and defended us, we wouldn’t have the abiltiy and freedoms we have today.

We need to remember them and say “THANK YOU!”
