Tech TV Farewell Part 1

TechTV Farewell Pt 1.http://youtube.com/v/o8eUf0K6hDk
Tech TV was a great channel with many good shows. How someone could screw it up is beyond me, but G4 sure did. The cool thing is that i still get all the great information from many of the same personalities, I just get it through podcasts and other channels on the internet. Long live Tech TV!

NHL players should play in the Olympics

The NHL is making waves and statements at this Olympics that they may not allow their players to play in the next Olympics in Sochi.
Excuse me? The NHL players in these Olympics has made it one of the best hockey tournaments ever and has turned on a bunch of people to hockey.

When has NBC ever got over 10 million people to watch a hockey game and that is when they buried it on MSNBC? The answer is never.

Brian Burke, the GM of the USA Team and GM of the Toronto Maple Leaves seems to be against having NHL players represent their countries.

Imagine some of our markets where we’re challenged attendance wise. You get into a situation in Atlanta or Florida that are fighting for a playoff spot, actually generating interest and people are following their teams in the standings and then close their doors for 2 ½ weeks and say, ‘Thanks for your patronage but come back in 2 ½ weeks.’

I would have to argue that watching the best play in the Olympics generates more interest that having monotonous NHL games on. The world’s focus is on the Olympics and this hockey tournament. You will get more exposure and people interested in the sport and that will help the NHL in the long-term.

Growing up in northern California, we only were able to watch hockey once every four years when the Olympics were on. Watching the 1980 hockey team win in Lake Placid peaked my interest and I became a hockey fan.

The best of the world were playing then except for the U.S and probably Canada because the NHL didn’t play. But the best of the world should play and that includes the NHL players.

Frontier Messed Up Today

Frontier Airlines has really messed up today. We were supposed to leave at 11:45 today. But we are still sitting in Denver, instead of getting ready to land in Washington, DC.
We are all on the plane, but we’re not going anywhere. This flight was late getting to Denver and now we are waiting for a part to fix the captains chair.

So instead of getting to DC at 5 pm, we are getting in around 7. There goes my opportunity to have an early dinner and get ready for the week.

I am hoping we get in at a reasonable time. I really like Frontier, but now that Republic Airlines is running the show, I may have to rethink my loyalty.

Homeowner’s Association’s are just nuts

I am in a crazy homeowner’s association. It is not like the rules are crazy against me as a property owner or my neighbors.
It is the quorum that is required to change the bylaws. For quorum, we need 60% of the homeowner’s. That is 188 homes. We also must be unanimous. If one person votes no, then it is dead.

We are trying to change it, but there are many that don’t care. We barely got over 100 households tonight.

Hopefully the changes and future votes will allow us to manage our homeowner’s association. But the way it’s going now, we can’t even change the board members.

This is one big mess-up. Neumann Homes messes it up for us again.

Conan issues a statement that begins with People of Earth

Today, Conan issued a heartfelt statement about the problems facing NBC as they try and deal with their problems.

People of Earth

In the last few days, I’ve been getting a lot of sympathy calls, and I want to start by making it clear that no one should waste a second feeling sorry for me.  For 17 years, I’ve been getting paid to do what I love most and, in a world with real problems, I’ve been absurdly lucky.  That said, I’ve been suddenly put in a very public predicament and my bosses are demanding an immediate decision.

Six years ago, I signed a contract with NBC to take over The Tonight Show in June of 2009.  Like a lot of us, I grew up watching Johnny Carson every night and the chance to one day sit in that chair has meant everything to me.  I worked long and hard to get that opportunity, passed up far more lucrative offers, and since 2004 I have spent literally hundreds of hours thinking of ways to extend the franchise long into the future.  It was my mistaken belief that, like my predecessor, I would have the benefit of some time and, just as important, some degree of ratings support from the prime-time schedule.  Building a lasting audience at 11:30 is impossible without both.

But sadly, we were never given that chance. After only seven months, with my Tonight Show in its infancy, NBC has decided to react to their terrible difficulties in prime-time by making a change in their long-established late night schedule.

There is more to this statement, but NBC is really screwed up right now. There have been many moves lately that have been really bad and they way they are treating Conan is really wrong. They have a wonderful brand in the Tonight Show and moving and tinkering with it will only fail again.

It’s a sad day for NBC.

Facebook Employee Accessing Data

Why You Shouldn’t Trust Facebook with Your Data: An Employee’s Revelations – Facebook
Valleywag had a commentary on a story about Facebook employees accessing user profiles when they shouldn’t. Apparently there is a master password that they can use to get into your account.

Also, it appears the database isn’t protected. An employee can just query the database and get any information they want.

This is scary. I am doubting using Facebook anymore.

I am wondering if this will begin to be the downfall of Facebook?
