Colorado Avalanche Fall Just Short

Well the impossible run for a playoff berth fell just short last night as the Avalanche fell 4-2 to the Nashville Predators.
If they would have pulled off the victory, it would have set up a wonderful match-up this evening as the Flames fell to the Oilers, 3-2. I am just wondering that since the Avs during the second period if the Flames let up a bit.

It was a great run and they did not give up at all during the last month of the season. I think that Avs are building for the future and have an opportunity to add a few players this off-season to be ready for a wonderful season next year.

I don’t know who I am going to root for in the playoffs, but right now I am leaning towards the Predators. They are a fine team built for a great playoff run.

Happy Easter

I just want to wish everyone a Happy Easter.
Enjoy the day with your family and close friends.

People Are Over-Sensitive Regarding Memorial

People are being over sensitive to planned memorial of a Navy Seal, Danny Dietz, who died in combat in Afghanistan.
The memorial planned for Berry Park  is near where he grew up and went to school.  The issue raised  was that this memorial is going to be of Dietz in uniform holding his combat weapon.

The problem, according to the objectors, is that this memorial will only glorified violence and guns.  They especially felt this way since the park where it will be is near some schools, including Columbine High School.

I think people are over-reacting to this memorial.  It is honoring a fallen hero who died trying to protect this country.  One of the things that a soldier has with him is his weapon.  It is used for defending this country.

If you go to military memorials around the state of Colorado and this wonderful country, you will see many memorials to fallen soldiers, and most, if not all, will be holding a weapon of the day.

We need to stop being overly-sensitive to these issues and fight what is really important that violence with guns against each other in this country is wrong and needs to stop.

A memorial to a fallen soldier who is holding a gun is not going to cause someone to commit violence against someone else or use a gun to hurt or kill someone.

What is with MLB.TV

Why do I get commercials when I have subscribed to MLB.TV Premium?
This is crazy.  I subscribe to a service and they are throwing commercials at me.  Not just when I login to watch the games, but whenever I switch between games, I get the commercial.

I am sure tired of watching some guy and deer fight.

This is stupid.  When I get pay-per-view, On Demand, or other premium service I never get ads.

Major League Baseball needs to get out of the NFL attitude of bilking the people who pay their bills and they only reason these games exist, their fans.

Get a clue and when I pay for something, I should not and must not be subjected to ads.

Avs Playoff Hopes Still Alive

The Colorado Avalanche took care of business this evening with a wonderful victory over the Vancouver Canucks riding Milan Hejduk’s hat trick to a 3-1 victory.
They then headed to the locker room and nervously watched the San Jose Sharks hold off the Calgary Flames 4-3.

This keeps their slim playoff hopes alive. With two games remaining for each team, the Avs now trail the Flames by 3 points.

The Avs next need to take care of business against Peter Forsberg and the Nashville Predators on Saturday, while the Flames host Edmonton with a game against their arch rival Oilers.

Lets hope that Sundays game versus the Flames means something and the Avs prevail sending the Flames to early tee times.

Go Avs!

Opera Browser, Not Cutting It

Well I keep wanting to use the Opera browser as my surfing application, but I just can’t bring myself to using it.
Even though it follows all the standards strictly, not all web developers do that and I am constantly finding that I am unable to get several of my most surfed web pages to work on it.

In fact, there is a known flaw in Word Press that hinders the admin area of my blog if I was to use Opera. One example is that the lines don’t wrap in the box that I am writing this post.

I wish there was an alternative to IE and now even Firefox, but right now I will be sticking with Firefox.

Opera, you just need to be more functional with webpages so you can gain wider acceptance. I think that the demand is there.

Apple Turns Around Online Music Debate

Just recently the European Commission was blaming Apple for a limited and convoluted process for obtaining digital music. In Europe there was different prices and restrictions that were placed upon the iTunes music store.
Well the European Commission has now come out and is now blaming the record labels. From an article on CNET, Commission spokesman said, “Our current view is that this is an arrangement which is imposed on Apple by the major record companies and we do not see a justification for it.”

This builds upon the letter that Steve Jobs posted on the Apple website in February and the agreement that Apple signed with EMI yesterday. Finally the record labels are getting their just rewards and it is time to stop blaming Apple.

Times are a changing and there will soon be more choice for consumers. With competition we will have better products and hopefully better prices. In can only benefit us as the consumer.

YEAH!

DRM Free EMI Music on iTunes

Apple and EMI announced that most of the EMI catalog will be available in iTunes by the end of the year.
The catalog will be available in iTunes at a slight premium ($1.29 vs $.99 per song). But with that you will get music at twice the quality and DRM free. I think that this is worth the extra cost.

Check out the Apple Press Release on the subject. You can also read about my earlier post on the rumor that was floating around last evening.

Thanks Apple and EMI. Hopefully this will open up soon for other labels.

Deal Coming on DRM Free Music

Apple and EMI Group will be making a big announcement on Monday where EMI is going to sell the labels music DRM free on iTunes. EMI is also looking at other deals with other companies to do this with.
This is huge and will be a great step forward in progressing away from the old music models. Having DRM free music will allow music to be shared on a wide variety of devices and we won’t be stuck with on a device tied to a service we are buying it from.

Speculation is also flowing that there might be a deal for Beatles music. But according to a story by Reuters in the Washington Post, “Apple/EMI in deal, but Beatles not included-source“, the Beatles appear to not be in the picture.

In February, Steve Jobs issued a letter calling for music companies to get rid of DRM. One of the biggest points is that the sell their CDs without DRM and they sell a lot more of them then they do downloaded music. You can see my post here.

Knerdy Corner might start buying music at iTunes now if this goes through in his post Steve Jobs + EMI = ???.

This could begin the tidal wave to get rid of DRM. I can’t wait. Let the revolution begin. I bet the RIAA is starting to quake in their boots.
