160 people fail to show up for jury duty

9NEWS – Article – RSS – Apologies flooding in following jury duty roundup
To all the lame people who failed to show up for jury duty in Greeley:

I can’t believe it.  It is your civic duty to show up for jury duty.  If you don’t show up, you better have a good reason.

As the article implies, the weather was fine.  So no “Too much snow!” excuses.

Because you were selfish, many more people were inconvenienced when they were taken off the street to fill your place.  People who were going about their business were then served and had to immediately report.

People should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.  Shame on you!

Michigan Results Interesting

I am wondering how long Fred Thompson is going to stay in the race.  In watching the results, he was even losing to Ron Paul.  Finishing fifth in the race does not show well.
I am wondering how Giuliani’s strategy of waiting to Florida is panning out.  He wouldn’t have done well in the early states anyway, but by not campaigning in those states, a half-hearted attempt in New Hampshire, he has lost the momentum that he once had.

Giuliani finished behind Thompson.  By waiting to Florida, he may already be out of the race.

Behind the scenes with Katie Couric

I saw this video and watched it. It is video of Katie Couric behind the scenes and the interaction between Katie and everyone it takes to put on CBS Evening News.
A lot of people are being critical of her, but to me this is not bad. It shows the confusion and work that goes into putting on a major news show. Sometimes you just need to liven things up.

Bill Gates Farewell Video

This is a little late on the eve of Steve Jobs keynote at Macworld, but this video was quite funny.  Bill Gates is quite a sport to be doing this plus all the others who participated in putting it together.

Douglas Bruce Kicks Photographer, Then Blames Photographer

I am wondering how Douglas Bruce was selected to fill the remanding term in the Colorado State House of Representatives.  He just doesn’t get it.  He sees it about himself, not the State of Colorado or his constituents.
Since being selected, he has delayed being sworn in, denying his constituents representation, so he could get through half the term he is replacing and serve eight years instead of the term limited six years.

When he did show up at the House, he wanted to be sworn in during the House session and then speak to the House for 90 seconds.  When he showed up on the House floor for that this morning, as a guest, for his swearing in, something happened.  During the morning prayer, he kicked a photographer of the Rocky Mountain News.  There is even video.

He is now thinking up stories, trying to blame the photographer and wanting an apology.  That is just ridiculous.  If you watch or have watched the video you can clearly see that it was his fault.  He should be charged with assault.  Maybe that will get his attention.

Bruce made his own party mad.  The Republicans in the House voted to select someone else to replace him if he wasn’t sworn in today.

Douglas Bruce needs to get a clue that it isn’t all about him.  It is about his constituents and the State of Colorado.  But he won’t.  Hopefully the people in his district will vote him out.

Home thermostats: Big Brother’s next target?

Home thermostats: Big Brother’s next target? – Engadget
As reported on Engadget, the state of California is considering whether or not to require a thermostat that they can control in times of need to raise or lower the temperature to help reduce load.

This sounds and means well, but won’t work and is an invasion of what temperature I want my house set at.  Don’t get me wrong, we should be doing whatever we can to reduce our energy footprint, but if want my temperature set at a temperature, the government shouldn’t set it for me.  I have even installed a programmable thermostat to help us better manage the temperature in our house.

There are many reasons why I want a temperature set where I want it.  For me, I have an elderly family member living with me and she needs the temperature a little higher in the winter and cooler in the summer.  It just something she needs.

The temperature in our house should be managed by the homeowner, not the government.  The government should be working to better develop the energy in the state so their is enough, not reducing or increasing the temperatures remotely.

Flickr having some problems

Well the update bug has hit Flickr.
They made some updates to the system on Friday evening and the databases are having some problems catching up. The site is quite slow, if the pages load at all.

Seeing hiccups or site slowness: Back up They say it is back up, but people are still having problems with their pages.

I have been having some problems using Flickr with Flock. It looks like there is some problems with the two interacting Firefox and IE work fine, but Flock has problems. I have reported this as a problem.

Great Blog

My sister in-law just moved from New York City to Madison, Wisc., and she has started a blog to share her experiences moving from one of the biggest cities in the world, to a decent size city in the Midwest.
You can find her posts at Big Apple Cheese.

The writing is great and the posts are pretty interesting describing the differences between the two cities.

Take some time and enjoy.

Eagles vs Rage

I attended the Colorado Eagles vs Rocky Mountain Rage hockey game tonight in Loveland, Colo. It was a blast.

I was invited by a friend to go and we had dinner in Centerra before the game and then hit the game. PF Changs, was PF Changs. You can’t beat the lettuce wraps.

It was a great game with the Eagles coming back to win 6-5. There was a lot of action and fun to go. Also, the Eagles broke a minor league hockey record by having its 145 straight sell-out.

Pretty good for a small town hockey team with a NHL team nearby.

All-in-all, minor league hockey is a good buy and a fun time.

Gizmodo Pulls Stupid Prank at CES!

For those of you who haven’t heard, Gizmodo did a real weird and stupid prank at CES this week. During press conferences and meetings, staff from Gizmodo went around with there TV B Gone and were turning off all the TVs they were using for their presentations.
That is so not cool. These are companies who are trying to make an impression of their new products or product line so they can make a living. To go around turning off the TVs so you can laugh about it is just sick.

Gizmodo is going to be lucky not to be sued by one of these companies.

CES issued a statement on what they are doing today. Unless something happens to Gizmodo and Gawker Media, then the punishment is too light.

If you are reading this blog post, you should not read or support Gizmodo or Gawker media and any future tech conference should ban them from attending, starting with Macworld next week.

I think Loren Feldman from 1938 Media summed it up real well in a blog post, Gizmodo Guys are Real Dopes.
