Blue River – Silverthorne, Colorado

Thoughts & Experiences from the Mile High City

How would you like to show up for a flight and not have anyone else on your flight? Well this person experienced it.
He was flying from Johannesburg to Victoria Falls and originally told there would only be four other passengers. But by the time the flight took off, he was the only one.
I’ve been on flights with just a few people, but not by myself. How cool.
I’m headed back to Colorado and needed a quick break for lunch. I just needed a break from driving and get lunch for me and the kids.
Well the Steak n Shake at 1134 W Pearce Blv in Wentzville, Missouri, has not been the place so far.

Despite having many tables and booths available, it took ten minutes to get seated. Then another ten minutes until someone came and took our order.
I guess the two star rating on Google should have been my clue.
It took about 20-25 minutes to get out food once we ordered. That is a little long for three hamburgers, oh wait they are Steak burgers, and three milkshakes to be made and served.
Oh, they even forgot to put bacon on double, bacon cheeseburger.
In total, about 45 minutes from walking in to being served. Not good.
In-n-Out and Five Guys are a lot better. Definitely they are both a lot faster. In total about an hour.
I was going thorough Kansas City again. It’s hard to believe Sporting Kansas City played in this small stadium. It is home to the Kansas City T- bones, an independent baseball team. It’s quite small.

The NCHC playoff game between the University of Denver and University of Minnesota Duluth was an amazing game. However it was almost ruined by the referees. I would guess UMD fans would say it was.
The game started fast, but UMD was really dominating the game. Only a great steal and goal by Ty Loney got DU equal with UMD after the first period. UMD took the lead and then went on a 5 minute power play thanks to a major penalty on Didier. It was a good call and I am surprised he didn’t get a game misconduct.
During this power play, the call that I think everyone disagrees with occurs. DU gets a short-handed goal but after a lengthy review, I would say more than 5 minutes, the referees wave off the goal.
Everyone thought it was because the net came off before the puck crossed the net. But in reality it was because the referee said the DU’s Heinen interferred with the goalie. See for yourself.
I just don’t see the interference. Heinen is the one carrying the puck and shoots. It is saved. As he goes by the goalie, the goalie appears to cause the contact or is at least going down before there is contact. Also, Heinen is not in the crease.
It should be known the referee ruled a goal, so to reverse the goal you need definitive evidence. There is just not the evidence here to reverse it. Especially if it takes 5 minutes to review it.
But after DU killed off the 5 minute major, they seemed to take control of the game. Tying the game up quickly after the 3rd period started. UMD took the lead again on a great shot from a tight angle. Jalliet looked to have it covered, but somehow it found the back of the net over his shoulder.
DU added a PP goal. Kaskiuso for UMD couldn’t handle the shot and DU pounced, putting the backhander into the net.
Then some controversy for UMD. DU scored what would become the game winner, but it appears Loney could have hit it with a high stick. Watching it in real time, it appeared to be a goal. Looking at replays, it is tough to tell but looked like the goal should count.
In the end, DU takes a 1-0 lead in the best of three series with game 2 coming on Saturday night. Both of these teams are really good and will go far in the NCAA tournament. The question remains who will go to Minneapolis next week.
Let’s hope the officials don’t have a say in who wins. The NCHC is a great league, the level of officiating should be at the same level. I am not sure it was at the highest level it could be tonight.

My wife and I made the jump this weekend to iPads as our primary computers. We have an iMac at home and that will serve as our main computer, but most of our work will be done on the iPads.
I have an older MacBook Pro, but that will now be relegated to working with my wife’s craft paper cutter. It is an older one and was starting to bog down some, though Yosemite did improve the speed.
The reasoning is that all the things I needed from a computer I could do with an iPad. The same with my wife. We didn’t need the extra $500 to $1000 on a laptop. The iMac will be the hub and with cloud apps and iCloud it will be an extension of the iPads.
Looking forward to the next chapter and will see how it works out.
Recently I switched from Network Solutions to Hover as my domain hosting service for this blog. Needless to say I didn’t fully check things when they came over. That was a mistake.
I don’t think that it was any thing that Hover did but I am surprised my settings didn’t come across from Network Solutions. They did for my other blog.
Unfortunately my blog on Squarespace has been down and I apologize for that. I should have checked it.
Hopefully there won’t be any more issues with this blog once the DNS gets around.
A nice and cool evening for a walk in Westminster City Park. A light rain is falling. I think fall is here.

As a person who works for the federal government I have always worked to ensure the public and customers if the agencies I worked for got my best service.
I guess the TSA doesn’t care. As a taxpayer and a person who travels we are paying them to ensure we are secure on airplanes. We also should expect to get through security with the least amount of inconvenience.
But it that is not what’s happening at Denver International Airport.
I usually take the bridge to Concourse A. It more convenient than the other security checkpoints and always much faster.
But on a busy Saturday evening travel night they closed the bridge at 5:45 pm.
Look at the people waiting to get through security.

There is no excuse for an entity to treat taxpayers and travelers who pay for this service to be treated this way.
Oh, more than half the people on the train got off at the A concourse. This shows that the traffic justified keeping it open.
The A concourse was designed for a majority of the people go over the bridge, not use the train. It is something that should be looked at.
I know people complain about the TSA all the time, but something needs to be done on how they serve travelers. There is a way they can secure flights while ensuring people aren’t inconvenienced.
I’m headed into San Francisco today to attend Macworld/iWorld and I decided to take BART. I just didn’t want to mess with parking and traffic in San Francisco plus have to pay bridge tolls.
But who would have known that I would have had so many problems finding a spot to park at the Dublin/Pleasanton station. The fee parking was full as was most of the permit parking. I was lucky the permit parking opens to everyone at 10 a.m. I think I got the last one.
A reasonable entrepreneur may take more advantage of it and put another garage or lot in to satisfy the demand. I’m sure BART could make more money than $1 – $2 daily for the spot also.
Just at a heads up if you want to use BART and park at the Dublin/Pleasanton station, it fills up early.
