Statement I received from the McCain campaign…

The following is what I received from the McCain campaign about the financial crisis.

John McCain’s Remarks on the Economic Crisis
New York, NY
Wednesday, September 24, 2008

America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen.

Last Friday, I laid out my proposal and I have since discussed my priorities and concerns with the bill the Administration has put forward. Senator Obama has expressed his priorities and concerns. This morning, I met with a group of economic advisers to talk about the proposal on the table and the steps that we should take going forward. I have also spoken with members of Congress to hear their perspective.

It has become clear that no consensus has developed to support the Administration’s proposal. I do not believe that the plan on the table will pass as it currently stands, and we are running out of time.

Tomorrow morning, I will suspend my campaign and return to Washington after speaking at the Clinton Global Initiative. I have spoken to Senator Obama and informed him of my decision and have asked him to join me.

I am calling on the President to convene a meeting with the leadership from both houses of Congress, including Senator Obama and myself. It is time for both parties to come together to solve this problem.

We must meet as Americans, not as Democrats or Republicans, and we must meet until this crisis is resolved. I am directing my campaign to work with the Obama campaign and the commission on presidential debates to delay Friday night’s debate until we have taken action to address this crisis.

I am confident that before the markets open on Monday we can achieve consensus on legislation that will stabilize our financial markets, protect taxpayers and homeowners, and earn the confidence of the American people. All we must do to achieve this is temporarily set politics aside, and I am committed to doing so.

Following September 11th, our national leaders came together at a time of crisis. We must show that kind of patriotism now. Americans across our country lament the fact that partisan divisions in Washington have prevented us from addressing our national challenges. Now is our chance to come together to prove that Washington is once again capable of leading this country.

What are your thoughts?

In gaffe, Biden says FDR led when market crashed in 1929 and addressed country through television

General News – In gaffe, Biden says FDR led when market crashed.
Here is Biden’s quote,

“When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, ‘Look, here’s what happened,'” Barack Obama’s running mate recently told the “CBS Evening News.”

This is pretty bad. To not know who was president when the stock market crashed and that TV was at least 10 years away.

Not good Biden. – Dems’s big blunder and McCain’s big chance – Morris: Dems’s big blunder and McCain’s big chance.
Last week in Denver, the Democrats tried to link McCain to George Bush.  But in this article, Dick Morris highlights that this is a major mistake and I agree.

John McCain has broken with Republican party numerous times and has worked to end the partisanship in DC.

If people want change and partisanship to end, then you need to vote for John McCain.

Assistant Principal at Wasilla High School says it best…

This appeared in the Chicago Tribune. I found it through The Page Blog on Time.

“I’m sorry to hear this, but I have every confidence they have the abilities and the confidences handle this,” he said.

“Just like children should not pay for the sins of the parents. The parents should not pay for the transgressions of the children.”

-Mark Okeson, the assistant principal at Wasilla High School

I think that says all we need to know about the Palin’s.

Liberals are applying a double-standard to Palin and family

I just want to say that I am disappointed by a lot of liberals today and the media how they are exploiting the announcement today by the Palin’s that there older daughter is pregnant.
On Twitter, Claire Celsi has a post that says, “if you are listening..seriously, now might be a good time to focus on your own family instead of running for VP.”

It all goes back to the rumor started by Andrew Sullivan of which said that Palin claimed she was pregnant to cover up her daughters pregnancy; her son, Trig, was actually Bristol’s son.

Sullivan is also calling for the McCain campaign to release the medical records that show that Sarah Palin actually gave birth. Give me a break!

These are the same group of people who are advocating for privacy are now asking for Palin to give up hers just for their kicks to see if she really gave birth.

A mother and professional women should be able to choose whether she will work, whether she will have a career, or whether she will stay home with her family. As a father and a husband, I would do whatever I could to support my wife in her endeavors, whatever she would decide to do.

It just amazes me that liberals and feminists are so out to get Palin that they will try and taint her as a bad mother because she wants to be Vice President while almost electing a woman to run for the Presidency.

This is a double standard that is just plain stupid.

In another instance, Alan Colmes attacked Palin because of her prenatal care, questioning whether she took the right care when she was pregnant with Trig. This is just horrible and totally wrong. Colmes has removed his post, but Kim Priestap of Wizbang captured a screenshot before that happened.

Things happen in a family and a family must deal with them.  As with all previous elections and Presidencies, the kids are off limits. The media has done a good job with this, but the blogosphere has not.

The blogosphere should leave all personal family matters of all politicians alone.

Update: Kennedy, Clinton and Bush each had children living in the White House while they were President. No one ever questioned their parental skills and not devoting enough time to the family. Palin shouldn’t be questioned either because she has chosen to run for Vice President.

Denver Police are giving Denver a bad name – Democrats helping

The Denver Police Department continue to give the City of Denver a bad name. It only escalated today when they arrested a reporter/producer for ABC news who was investigating a breakfast meeting between Democrat Senators and high value donors.
I usually try and give the Police the benefit of the doubt, but they have gone way to far during the DNC.  We have a consitution in this country and the Denver Police and other law enforcement are not following it.

The reporter/producer was standing on the sidewalk and a hotel guard came out of the Brown Palace, who happened to be a Boulder County Sheriff.  The guard then proceeded to push him out into the street.

A little while later, at least five Denver Police officers came back and arrested the reporter.  They say the Brown Palace signed a complaint. How can they sign a complaint against someone who is doing nothing wrong on a public sidewalk?

Originally they wouldn’t tell ABC what he was being arrested for, but then came back and said that he was being arrested on charges of interference, trespass and failure to obey a lawful order.

How can that be?  The video clearly shows that he is on a public sidewalk and he and his crew are not blocking it.

Tuesday, a women was in civic center park protesting when they saw someone getting arrested. They were trying to find out why when a police officer came up and pushed her knocking her to the ground (she alleges that she was hit about four times by the same officer).

The video shows the officer saying, “Back up, b—-“.  She was then speaking with reporters and the police came up and grabbed her and arrested her.

At least the Denver Police Internal Affairs is investigating and the officer has been reassigned away from assignments that will bring him in contact with protestors.

The Democrats, who play themselves as defenders of the First Amendment, are doing their best to silence the media and the Denver Police are playing into their hands.

As an American, whether or not you agree with what the reporter or the protestor was doing, you should stand-up and defend their right to do so.  It is a basic right for anyone to do so.  Anything less would be un-American.

Upside Down American Flag Used on Credential for Obama Acceptance Speech? | Viewers question credential design
The Democratic Party and Obama campaign have released the credentials for the acceptance speech that Barack Obama will be giving at the end of the Democratic National Convention and Invesco Field.

But there seems to be a problem with the credential.  It appears to have an upside down flag on it.  The stars of the flag are in the lower left corner.

Flying a flag upside down is the international sign of distress.  Are the Democrats in that much trouble?

Appropriate flag etiquette dictates that the flag fly with the stars in the upper left corner.

According to the story on 9 News, Matt Chandler with the Obama campaign says the flag is not upside down. He says it is a stylized flag designed to blend the stars on Senator Obama’s shirt with the flag blowing in the wind.

The Obama campaign seemed to miss this one.  When you are operating at this level, you need to look at the situation and anticipate how they may be used against you.

They missed this one and it is a big mistake that will be talked about for a while. Especially when they are trying to court the conservative vote.

Interstate 25 to close during Obama’s acceptance speech, no real reason to do this.

I just want to say that the security for the DNC is beginning to get ridiculous.  Closing roads around the Pepsi Center, when they are farther than 100 yards, is somewhat understandable.
There are many people coming and going and who knows what the protestors will try.

But closing a major Interstate Highway through the middle of town is a little much.  It will be done to “protect those attending the event.”

This is a facility that hosts football games with people in attendance of about 80,000 people.  They don’t need to be protected like this?  Denver Police do a good job of protecting the attendees without closing the Interstate.

There is a quote about President Bush or Vice President Cheney visiting and closing roads.  But the difference is they are moving around town and the roads are only closed for a short time.

This will close 5.5 miles of a major Interstate during rush hour.  Over 250,000 vehicles use this freeway during a normal day.

I just like the Denver mayor saying the impacts will be minimal. I guess he lives in a dream world and doesn’t have to drive this Interstate during rush hour.

I understand the need to protect the attendees and the presumed nominee for the Democrat Presidential Candidate, but this is going too far.

When the Pope John Paul II visited Mile High Stadium in 1993, they didn’t close the Interstate.  There were a bunch more people there than will be in attendance for the acceptance speech by Barack Obama.

But they don’t care what I say, they are turning this Nation into a police state and will do whatever they want to do.

Hosting a National Convention is becoming such an impact on host cities, I don’t think that they see the return on their investment.  Businesses are being impacted, employees are being forced to take time off without pay or use vacation, and colleges are being forced to close for a week and students are missing out on classes.

To me, it is not worth the hassle or cost to host a National Convention.

Rising Convention Costs and Delays Worry Democrats

Rising Convention Costs and Delays Worry Democrats –
An interesting article on the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Denver at the end of August.  This is nothing new to the residents of Denver. But the National media is finally beginning to recognize the problems.

The host committee is struggling with appropriate financial decisions, is having trouble raising money, and making some bad decisions.  It is falling through for them and now they are discussing having Obama accepting the nomination at Invesco Field.

Some of the bad decisions include wasting money on upscale office space at $100,000 a month and then not needing it all.  They are then wasting that unneeded office space including unneeded office furniture.

In previous articles they are cutting back on parties around town, including parties to recognize the numerous volunteers that are going to be helping with the event.  That is one thing that you don’t cut back on, providing recognition to the people who are giving their time to help you.

It will be interesting to see how this comes off and if fundraising increases.  Obama has sent a team of people to help, but is it too late?

The Democrats have found ways to lose the last two elections.  Let’s see if they can pull off the convention or blow that also.

I just hope that Denver does not get a bad name because of their incompetence.

Update:  See the comments section for clarification from the Democrats on their blog.

Road Map to Defeat

Road Map to Defeat – New York Times
This was an interesting op-ed.  The Democrats are doing whatever they can do to lose it, but they hadn’t won it either.

I found a quote interesting in this op-ed, “And the country wants to elect a Democrat.”  I don’t think the country wants to elect a Democrat, they want change.

John McCain has gone against the Republican leadership before and has fought battles.  I think that is why he is the presumptive nominee.  He pulls in the independents and gets back to core Republican values.  He is change from the current administration.

For the Democrats, Hilary Clinton is not change.  She is old eastern politics and a holdover from the 8 miserable years this country experienced under her husband.  The only reason she is where she is, is because of her husband was President.

Barack Obama is running on the change platform and his campaign is being really successful in garnering support from voters who have not previously cared or voted.  But he is not being realistic in his policies and programs. Continue reading “Road Map to Defeat”
